Newark's annual 24 Hours of Peace is moving downtown this year
NEWARK — Ras Baraka launched Newark's 24 Hours of Peace celebration in 2102 as a city councilman from the South Ward, and the annual event was held there on Clinton Avenue for its first four years. But Baraka was elected mayor in 2014, and now has the entire city to pacify. Christie's school funding plan could sink our urban districts | Opinion
By Richard Muti Gov. Chris Christie's "Fairness Formula" for public education funding plays upon the frustrations and anxieties of property tax-weary suburbanites like the song of the Sirens played upon the ears of ancient Greek sailors. If listened to, it will surely lead our ship of state onto rocky shoals as perilous as those that threatened Odysseus and his men in Homer's immortal tale. Most of us plowed through "The Odyssey" in high school, when we were too young, perhaps, to appreciate i..

A federal judge repeatedly criticized the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark during a hearing Wednesday, scolding prosecutors for seeking light sentences — sometimes with no prison time — for people who plead guilty to corruption and related offenses. Before sentencing a Guttenberg contractor who conspired with Union City officials to steal federal housing funds, U.S. District Judge William H. Walls spent several minutes upbraiding the U.S. Attorney’s Office for a “ridiculous” pattern of br..

These 7 bills waiting on Christie's desk could affect millions across N.J.
TRENTON — By enacting a law that bars the state pension fund from investing in companies that refuse to do business with Israel, Gov. Chris Christie Tuesday took a small step toward clearing off the mountain of bills piled atop his desk. Another 46 pieces of legislation await the governor's action. Some he has vetoed before and likely don't have a chance of passing this time, either. Others that received bipartisan backing could be signed into law. Here are a half dozen of the top bills stil..
