Newark police kill suspect in shootout, authorities say
NEWARK -- City police officers responding to a report of a man with a gun shot and killed the suspect in an exchange of gunfire Thursday, authorities said. Thomas Fennelly, Chief Assistant Prosecutor with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said the male suspect was pronounced dead at University Hospital. The person was not immediately identified, the prosecutor's office said.
